Meeting 4/2/15

Mark Odorizzi, Daniel Synoski, John Vargo
4/1/2015
Group 42 Section 940
Week 1, Meeting 2

Objectives
Meet with Dr. Mitchell and check the project timeline
Discuss constraints on the project
Pitch project additions to Dr. Mitchell

Procedure
The meeting opened with quick review of the project timeline. After a quick glance, Dr. Mitchell said that the group was on track for administration problems at the time and suggested that the group discuss the constraints of their project.
The first question that Dr. Mitchell asked the group was, “Why do you think bus shelters are built the way they are?” A couple of answers were; money, recognizability, and easy maintenance. This caused the group to step back and reevaluate the project. The group went through different criteria that they wanted to set for themselves and also constraints that cannot be avoided due to city ordinances and codes. The group created a list of all possible constraints and criteria and will post them to the blog.
The final part of the meeting was going back to the administrative side of things. The group discussed the blog grading system and the turn-in dates for the final report. Dr. Mitchell suggested that the group turn in a draft of the final report three days ahead of when the first draft is due so that major revisions can be made before the official first grade. Dr. Mitchell also suggested that the group assign jobs at the beginning of each week to different members. This is so in case of member laziness, Dr. Mitchell can review group participation.

Obstacles
This meeting made the group take a step back and evaluate how the project was going to look over the course of the next ten weeks. Questions were raised about the chosen site and crunch time came much faster than anticipated. The group overcame these challenges by lining everything up in a clean timeline alongside an administrative review early on.

Progress Against Schedule
The group has a tentative design proposal in the works which is on schedule. The blog has been created, but Dan has faced trouble understanding the blog requirements. The group is still determining the site and defining constraints and criteria. These are still on schedule, however.

Goals for Next Meeting
The group wishes to have a defined site and finished design proposal for next weeks meeting with Dr. Mitchell. The group will continue to work on scheduled items as needed. Any further progress will put the group ahead of schedule.

Week 1, Meeting 3

Objectives
Propose potential roof design
Discuss blog requirements
Review public input
Procedure

John had a design that he wanted to pitch to the group about a potential roof design. The group hosted an impromptu meeting regarding the design and the group’s blog. John created both a sketch and a sketchup model of his thoughts to propose to the group. The design involved an arched roof with a leaf like design to funnel water to either side of the structure to account for a constraint that Dr. Mitchell had presented to the group in the last meeting. Dr. Mitchell told the group that they could not have water runoff into the sewers due to a Philadelphia ordinance with Drexel. This sparked an idea from dan to have hanging gardens from either side for some of the water to be directed to.

The next part of the meeting regarded the blog. The results on the blog were still minimal and the group’s understanding was foggy. Dan posted each group member’s biography, but was unable to find them when viewing the blog from the outside. Results are pending.
Finally, the group reviewed input on the survey that they sent out. Results were numerous. After weeding out most of the inappropriate and irrelevant comments, the results told us that a shelter is in high demand and gave us an idea of what the public wants in a shuttle station.

Obstacles
The 3D model of John’s idea showed that designing the shelter with CADD is going to be more difficult than anticipated. The members need to research different strategies of making curved surfaces using Google Sketch-Up. The blog still is giving the group trouble and will need to be figured out before the next meeting with Dr. Mitchell.

Progress Against Schedule
The group is ahead of schedule in terms of design. The roof plan was just a projected idea, but the mindset is ahead of schedule. The blog is on pace with where it needs to be assuming things continue at the same pace.

Goals for Next Meeting
The group needs to provide Dr. Mitchell with a list of what each group member did this week and what everyone will do next week with initials signed for verification. The blog needs to be up and running and up-to-date.
